slug public meeting and annual general meeting on 8 may 2018

22 april 2018

The 2018 Stourbridge Line User Group Public Meeting and Annual General Meeting will take place on Tuesday 8 May 2018 at the Severn Valley Railway Station at Kidderminster.  The Public Meeting will be held in the Refreshment Room (at the rear of the King and Castle Public Bar) and will run from 7.30 pm to 9.00 pm, with the AGM following on afterwards.

There have been a number of developments since the last Public Meeting held last May.  In December, West Midlands Railway took over the running of the franchise from London Midland and have promised improvements to evening services and to connecting services at Smethwick Galton Bridge from December 2018, with major improvements to Sunday services from May 2021.  In addition, subject to feasibility studies giving positive results, services to Brierley Hill and West Midlands Safari Park have been proposed.

The Government has given the go ahead to build the long awaited Metro line from Wednesbury to Brierley Hill via Dudley and the current timetable would see the line opened from Wednesbury to Dudley in 2022, with the line through to Brierley Hill opened in 2023.

Building work on the new Kidderminster station building should start in the summer with completion in 2019.  The completed station will greatly improve the customer experience at the station.

In December 2017, Chiltern Railways introduced additional weekend through services to/from London Marylebone, after years of campaigning by SLUG.

So, there is a lot going on at present and you, the travelling public will be able to listen to guest speakers from the rail industry and county travel planning departments with the developments listed above featuring strongly in the presentations.  Whether you have praise or criticism of the rail service on our line or you have a suggestion to make or a question to ask, you are most welcome to take part.

We will post a complete list of speakers as soon as we know them.  However, we can confirm that the following have already confirmed their attendance :-

Hopefully, we’ll see you there.
